Welcome to BarristerBid. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of our platform and services. By accessing or using BarristerBid, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Important: Please read these Terms carefully before using our platform. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use BarristerBid.

Definitions

  • "Platform" refers to the BarristerBid website and services
  • "User" refers to any person who accesses or uses the Platform
  • "Solicitor" refers to legal professionals who post cases and hire barristers
  • "Barrister" refers to legal professionals who bid on and accept cases
  • "Contract" refers to the agreement between a solicitor and barrister for legal services
  • "Escrow" refers to the secure holding of funds until contract completion

Eligibility

To use BarristerBid, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a qualified legal professional (solicitor or barrister)
  • Provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Have the legal capacity to enter into binding contracts
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations in your jurisdiction
  • Not be suspended or banned from the Platform

Account Registration and Security

Registration Requirements

When creating an account, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Keep your password secure and confidential
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

Verification Process

Barristers must complete a verification process by submitting valid professional credentials, including ID documents, proof of address, and practicing certificates. BarristerBid reserves the right to verify all submitted documents and reject applications that do not meet our standards.

Platform Services

For Solicitors

  • Post legal cases with detailed descriptions
  • Review and accept bids from qualified barristers
  • Communicate with barristers through our messaging system
  • Manage contracts and payments through escrow
  • Leave reviews and ratings for barristers

For Barristers

  • Browse available cases matching your expertise
  • Submit competitive bids with cover letters
  • Communicate with solicitors regarding case details
  • Receive payment upon successful contract completion
  • Build your professional profile and reputation

Payments and Fees

Escrow System

All contract payments are processed through our secure escrow system:

  • Solicitors deposit the full contract amount when approving a contract
  • Funds are held securely in escrow until contract completion
  • Upon completion, funds are released to the barrister minus platform fees
  • Disputes are handled according to our dispute resolution process

Platform Fees

BarristerBid charges a platform fee of 20% on all completed contracts:

  • The fee is automatically deducted from the contract amount
  • Barristers receive 80% of the contract value
  • No hidden fees or additional charges
  • Fees are non-refundable once a contract is completed

Note: All fees and payment terms are subject to change with prior notice. Current fees will always be displayed before contract approval.

User Conduct

You agree NOT to:

  • Violate any laws or regulations
  • Provide false or misleading information
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Attempt to bypass the escrow system for direct payments
  • Post offensive, defamatory, or inappropriate content
  • Harass, threaten, or discriminate against other users
  • Use automated systems or bots to access the Platform
  • Interfere with the proper functioning of the Platform
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems or data
  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purposes

Intellectual Property Rights

Platform Content

All content on BarristerBid, including text, graphics, logos, images, and software, is the property of BarristerBid or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express permission.

User Content

You retain ownership of content you post on the Platform. By posting content, you grant BarristerBid a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute your content in connection with the Platform's operation.

Account Termination

Termination by User

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, you will no longer have access to your account and any pending contracts must be completed or cancelled according to our policies.

Termination by BarristerBid

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms and Conditions
  • You engage in fraudulent or illegal activities
  • You provide false or misleading information
  • Your account poses a security risk
  • We are required to do so by law

Limitation of Liability

BarristerBid is a platform that connects solicitors and barristers. We are not a party to the contracts between users and do not provide legal services. To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for the quality or outcome of legal services provided
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy of user-provided information
  • We are not responsible for disputes between users
  • Our total liability is limited to the fees paid to us in the past 12 months
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

Dispute Resolution

If a dispute arises between users:

  • Users should first attempt to resolve disputes directly
  • If unresolved, users may request BarristerBid mediation
  • BarristerBid will review evidence and make a binding decision
  • Escrow funds will be released according to the resolution
  • Users retain the right to pursue legal action independently

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes via email or platform notification. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Platform.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the use of the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United Kingdom.
